Just A Thought...

You Can't Afford To Put 2021 In The Rearview Yet
While simply keeping your organization afloat through the last couple of years is something to celebrate, I'm a bit worried the eagerness to put it all in the rearview mirror and move on down the road to 2022 is going to result in a lot of important lessons being missed. How do you avoid this? Luckily the answer is simple.
The best way to avoid missing important lessons from the past year is to sit down annually as an organization and talk about what worked, what didn't, and what (be honest here) is hanging on only through sheer willpower or a band-aid fix but truly shouldn't be operating the way it is.
This doesn't have to be a complete downer of a session - everyone deserves to enjoy the positives and with the undeniable benefits of mental wellness to crisis management it should be encouraged - however you do need to speak openly about the negatives and come prepared to talk realistic solutions along with how those should be prioritized.
If you really want to open things up then I'd suggest adding in some discussion of what others in your industry and region have faced, what they did to handle it, and how those lessons might be applied to your own operations, or (shameless plug time!) bring in some of the consultants and experts you rely on throughout the year to assist in a deeper dive.
These types of sessions can easily be done on Zoom, Teams, or similar, which means the only limitation is your time and willingness to make avoiding the issues of the past a priority.
So go, enjoy the rest of the year — but don't pack it all away in the back corners of your brain just yet because you still have some reviewing to do!
