Setting plans for broad categories of events can help you cover all the bases

It’s undeniable that planning and preparation are critical to maximizing your crisis management ability. At the same time, if you try to create a specific plan for every possible event you’ll soon find yourself with a crisis management plan the size of a phone book – not exactly what you want to be poring through in the thick of things.

How do you strike a balance? By planning for categories of crises of course! Not sure what categories should you consider? PR powerhouse Ogilvy has put out a neat infographic that lists many of the crises that could affect just about any organization:

Combined, your broad categorical and specific plans for your own predictable crises will have you ready to get a quick start on crisis management, helping you get back to business as usual as fast as possible.
