New hire for NY firm turns heads
Former Congressman Anthony Weiner became the namesake of our Weiner Awards thanks to his repeated demonstration of a keen ability to sink his own reputation ship via a multitude of communications platforms. Now, in a turn of events that reads like the start of a SNL sketch, he’s joined NY-based MWWPR as a member of its advisory board.
The announcement was met with such incredulous response that MWWPR felt compelled to release a statement “clarifying the role of Anthony Weiner as a member of board of advisors”:
MWWPR is pleased to welcome Anthony Weiner as a member of our Board of Advisors. Anthony brings to MWWPR a deep background and understanding in the workings of Congress and the City of New York. As a former member of the U.S. House of Representatives, Anthony was a leader on many issues ranging from the future of healthcare to national technology policy. His public policy expertise will be a great asset to our firm.
Anthony Weiner is an expert on public policy and will not be expected to service clients directly. As a member of our Board of Advisors, he will be a part time consultant to the agency, primarily focused on policy matters and new business development.
Regardless of what purpose he serves, proudly touting a failed politician who couldn’t keep his private parts under wraps as a new addition to your firm is a risky move. It certainly netted some publicity, but when the attention you garner is largely based on folks anticipating another scandal, we’re not sure it’s such a great idea.
